Questions and more questions

In terms of information there is something that happens very often: news that are on the main newspapers, radios and TV stations every day all of a sudden disappear and nobody hears about them anymore. I am sure that all of you have noticed it.

I remember, when I was younger, that in Spain big glass stones felt from the sky. During months, in different villages of Spain, somebody informed about a big stone falling from nowhere. I remember it went on for a few months. However, since then, I have never heard about again. Maybe it is because the big stones stopped falling, but the thing is that there were no further news.

Something similar happened, for example, with the dangerous dogs. I remember that a few years ago every day a dog attacked a person. Obviously, the social alarm helped to control more these dogs and the government established some rules. In any case, I am sure there are attacks nowadays that are not reported.

I know I am talking about topics that happened a few years ago, but I have more examples and that's why I decided to write. Do you remember all the news about Ebola? When it affected to European citizens and from the United States we had news of Ebola every hour. I think we all became experts. However, in the last weeks we have stopped hearing about this disease. Has it finished? Nobody is dying of Ebola? I am sure that in Africa there are still a lot of people suffering the effects of the disease, dying every day without anybody reporting. I think we all should reflect about it.

Something similar happens with the war in Ukraine. In Barcelona we even had demonstrations with the Ukraine flag in the Diagonal. We had news and reports every day from Kiev and the problems with Moscow. Does anybody know how  has it finished?

And what about Millet, Undargarin, Fabra  and other important people that have committed fraud? What has happened to them? Are there in jail? Have they given the money back? I remember that every day we had news concerning Undargarin but lately he has disappeared. By the way, and this thought I will extend it to other cases, what I really want is that Millet, Undargarin, Bárcenas, Pantoja and all of them give the money back. For me it is all right that they go into prision but the most important thing is to get the money back. We all know that if they go in they will spend a short time, but when they leave they will still have the money.

I know that things in our life happen very fast and that we don’t have time really to stop a second and think about different topics. Social Media don’t help either because everything goes too fast. However, we mustn’t forget all the harm these people have done to our society. They have to pay for it.

PS: It is really terrible that nowadays where most  people are suffering to get to the end of month some fans of Isabel Pantoja have decided to start collecting money to help her. Would these people collect money for homeless or people that don’t have enough to live? I do not think so.

Ebola

I am sure that if we asked which is the word you have heard most in the last few days I am sure that 99% of the humanity will answer the same: Ebola. Suddenly, it has become a very popular word in our conversations and everybody looks worried with its side effects. Of course, newspapers, radio programs and TV news have decided to make the topic of the month and we get loads of information of this terrible disease.

Spain has the honour of becoming the first western country to detect the first person with Ebola. Before, two missionaries died in Madrid after being rescued from Africa. But before this missionaries died and the nurse got infected nearly 4.000 people died in Africa because of this disease.

I have to admit that in the news I heard some information about the situation in countries like Guinea, Sierra Leone o Liberia, where Ebola has being killing people for months as you can read here. As usual, some countries send help and many people didn’t hesitate and decided to stay or to go to those countries to try to help.

However, most of the western people were not really aware of what was going on. That has suddenly changed since we knew that Teresa Romero was infected with the virus. I won't be demagogic: the easy thing to say know is that nearly none of us worried about Ebola until we had it at our front door.

We also know that in Africa, for example, and other parts of the world there are thousands of conflicts that we ignore. I think that it is totally human, because one only worries about things that are near or that affect him directly. However, it is true that maybe we had to put one eye in Africa because what is happening is terrible.

I heard this morning that there is a second case detected in the United States (the third one after Teresa and another nurse working in the same Texas hospital). I understand that authorities will have to calm down the population and try to follow all the procedures to avoid Ebola spreading.

Probably, as we conclude after reading and listening the news, the authorities don’t have all the information to stop this disease. I think we have to be patient, but I also think that those who work with infected people have to take all security measures when there are with them. I really admire those people that don’t doubt it and they help people infected. I am sure that not everybody would do it.

In short, I think it is time to be calm and let people work. I am sure that they will find a solution. Probably, and it is a shame, more people will die but we don’t have to get hysterical; let them work.

To finish just one last comment, I am surprised on the fact how some journalists here in Spain speak about Ebola, preventive measures, etc. as if they were experts. The funny thing about it is that they can talk about the Catalan process, Ebola or football. I think sometimes these journalists should be more honest with themselves and they shouldn’t participate in radio talk shows if they really don’t have all the knowledge they need to speak about some topics. I wouldn’t be able to do it and if I did, I would have to read a lot, listen to the news and talk to experts before saying anything. I am sure that most of them don’t follow any of these rules.
