It has been a long time since I last wrote in my blog. Honestly, in holidays I decide it not to touch a keyboard and since I have been back to work I haven’t stopped. Finally, I have found the moment to write again and give you my opinion about things as I use to.
This summer holidays I have been to Berlin. I have to admit that it wasn’t a city I was willing to visit. I thought I would find it boring, ugly… but I was absolutely wrong. We went there to visit our friend Montse and we stayed at her flat where we spent five great days. Thanks to her we went to places we wouldn’t have gone on our own. We went to a few lakes and we swam there, we had our supper in great places at incredible prices, we visited unknown parts of the city and we also had a barbecue in a park as Berliners do. It was a great experience and we really enjoyed the trip.
Of course, we also did tourism around Berlin and it was very interesting. The Reichstag, the Cathdral, the Pergamum Museum… are incredible buildings that have to be visited. There a lot of places that deserves spending your time. It is hardly recommended it to do the free tour. Guides are prepared and they explain the most important things of the city.
Other think you should do is go back in history. First of all, thinking in all what happened since Adolf Hitler took the power and the Second World War that finish with the defeat of the German country. We visited Sachsenhausen’s concentration camp where we revived all the brutality against the Jewish, specially, but also the prisoners and other people suffered. The IIWW was terrible for the city and most of the buildings were destroyed. 70 years after, however, it looks nice.
After the IIWW the Berliners lived another historic moment: the building of the Berlin wall. In a night, the 13th of August, the Soviet soldiers separated the city in two. If you think about it is terrible. Families and friends that shared their days started to live separate. Two different point of views, two ways of doing things, two different world in a same city. When you think about it, it is incredible.
25 years after the fall of the wall, Berlin remembers those days. I think it is a good way to try not to repeat the same errors.
I really enjoyed my trip to Berlin. It was a great experience and I really enjoyed going back on time and thinking how life was there years ago. I am sure that we would repeat in the future.
