This is the end

The Spanish National team supremacy in the world of football has ended. Honestly, I think that nobody really thought that Del Bosque’s boys were going to win again the World Cup. It is very difficult to keep the same ambition and, obviously, the rest of national teams also improve and have good players.

However, the way Spain has been knocked out has been quite terrible. It is true that the group was very difficult and starting against a great team as Holland didn’t help either, but it looks like the Spanish players never had their head in the tournament. The defeat against Chile in the crucial match confirmed that the Spanish Team wasn’t mentally ready to afford another big tournament. Finally, they won Australia in a correct match.

Once you see things it is very easy to give an opinion. After Australia’s match, a lot of people said that Villa should have played more. The same amount of people said that Villa shouldn’t be in the final squad.

Del Bosque thought that the best option was to be confident on the players that have won everything in the past years even though he probably knew that they weren’t going to succeed again. But there are some rules in football that you have to respect and probably he didn’t want any trouble with the big players of the team.

I think most of the Spanish National team supporters would have preferred other players, younger footballers with more ambition. Probably, they would have been knocked out in the next round or in the last sixteen, but the Spaniards would have been more proud of their players. Honestly, I think that they haven’t done well at all.

All these lines lead me to a final thought. I know it is very difficult to keep the same ambition, also that in a team sport it is complicated that all the players have the same points of views or desires and that is normal that they relax themselves. For all these reasons I admire the sportsmen like Nadal or Djokovic that every year fight to do better and improve.

In football we have a great example: Germany. Italy used to be a good one too, but lately they are not doing so well. They don’t always have the best players, but they are always fighting to win the title. The ambition, the capacity of fighting is an example for everybody. I know that it is very difficult and that in sport, like in life, these periods change and everything gets renewed.

Historical moment

If I could, I will like to live in a Republic. I don’t like monarchy, because I think they have privileges they don’t deserve. I understand that the kings, queens, princes, princesses do their job and they represent their countries wherever they travel to, but I think it is an old institution and doesn’t have any sense in the 21st century.

However, in June we have lived very important days in the history of this country still called Spain. Juan Carlos I announced that he was abdicating in favour of his son Felipe, who the 19th of June became the new king: Felipe VI. For Felipe and his family it is a great change in their lives as for many people who really support this institution. I don’t know if he knows all the pressure he will have to suffer, but it is true that he has been educated to be king since he was born.

In the past years, the Spanish monarchy has had a lot of problems and many people have attacked the institution because all of their big mistakes. With this decision it looks like Juan Carlos wants to renew an institution that has been strongly hit in the last months. Felipe VI will have to work hard to keep people happy.

For many Spanish people, the 19th of June was an important day. In the future, the history books will explain all what happened during those days. Felipe VI has become the second king in democracy, after Franco’s dictatorship. Juan Carlos has been the Spanish king for more than 39 years and now it is time for him to rest.

King Juan Carlos was one of the last important people I still remember since I was little. Probably, he is the last person and that confirms how time flies and that it is impossible to stop it.

The Spanish monarchy starts a new era with Felipe VI. The world is changing and this is something historic to everybody, even though you don’t support monarchy. One thing IS your opinions and another is what happens in the world. As A journalist I would have loved to be in Madrid during these days and explain everything what happened. I will have to resign myself with reading newspapers o watching TV.

Rafa Nadal, the best

I am a real fan of sports. I have always liked them. I imagine that, in a way, I admire those sportsmen, who are able to do things I can’t. I have dreamt a lot of times with being an Espanyol’s football player in a derby, a tennis player winning Roland Garros or an athlete winning the gold medal in the Olympics. As I said before, I know I will never have the chance, but dreams are still free.

I remember when I was younger, that I admired a Miguel Indurain a lot. He was a Spanish cyclist who won, for the first time in history, five consecutive Tours of France. He was incredible and an example for everybody. Probably, he was one of my first idols and he made me love a so exciting sport as cycling.

However, I think I have found a better sportsman than Miguel Indurain: Rafa Nadal. A few days ago, Nadal won his ninth, yes his ninth, Roland Garros. Nobody has one so many Grand Slam in a row and  he also has been able to win one of the big four in the last ten years. I really admire Nadal, I love seeing him play, his effort, his ambition.

At the start of the season Nadal arrived to the Australia Open final. He lost against Wawrinka because a back injury. When the clay season started, he surprised us loosing in one of his favorite tournaments, Montecarlo, against David Ferrer. In Barcelona, he didn’t do better but in Madrid he was able to win despite Nishikori effort. In Rome, again, he got to the final but he lost against Djokovic.

As usual, a lot of people started to say that he was finished, that Djokovic will win easily his first Roland Garros and that Rafa wouldn’t get very far. Again, Rafa showed everybody that he is a number one; the best. He arrived to the final winning Murray or Ferrer and still some people thought he would lose against the Serbian. When the first set went for Djokovic, in all the forums you could read that the tournament was for Nole. But, again, they were wrong.

Nadal played his best tennis and finally won Djokovic in four sets. Once more, he showed everybody that he is one of the best tennis players ever and that he is the king of clay. I thing he is an example and a lot of people should take him as one. Maybe he is not the player with more talent, but he never ever fails; he always does his best.

What I admire more from him is that he keeps on fighting. He has his life resolved, plenty of money but he likes to win, he doesn’t get tired. I think this is something everybody should take note. The way he plays, he runs, he fights… we all should take example. Obviously, we will never become super champs as him, but in our lives it will be very good to make an effort as he does playing. Probably, everything would work better.

I enjoy weddings

This Saturday, my friends Paula and Quique are getting married. It is the first wedding so far this year (we have three more ahead of us) and I am really looking forward, because I always have A good time when I attend them.

I really enjoy weddings because it is a very nice day for the couple, family and friends. Everybody is happy; there are a lot of details, love and nice stories. If you are in a wedding, you always find something to enjoy.

We will start our adventure this Friday. Some of us are going to the town where they are getting married before because it is quite far and we don’t want to rush. I imagine we will have our supper all together before the big day.

On Saturday, the wedding starts at 17.30h, but we have to be there at 17.15h. In the early hours we will have to get ready –I have to remember how to tie my tie- and have something to eat. I am sure that Paula and Quique have prepared a great wedding and that we will enjoy it.

All this reminds me that next month it will be my second wedding anniversary. Nearly two years have elapsed of one of the most important day in my life. Readers, I give you an advice: get married! It is worth it!

Giving example

This Monday the judge Enrique López has decided to resign from the Supreme Court. He took this decision after being caught last Saturday four times over the alcohol limit and without a safety helmet. Previously, he passed a red light. Obviously, the Police caught him and he decided to be honest and resign.

Enrique López said that some personal affairs could justify his acting, but he declined to use them as a defence. Since he was caught by the Police, he took the decision to resign. The president of the Constitutional Court has accepted his resignation –it couldn’t be any other way-.

López has made the right choice. It would have been absolutely inacceptable any other decision. However, in our country we are not accustomed to many people resigning, so we have to congratulate us that an important person has taken this option.

This news makes me think that every person under the public focus has to be extremely careful. I know there are human; I understand that everybody can make mistakes. I am sure that if we past list any of us would have to accept some mistakes or inappropriate behaviour during our lives. However, there are certain people that have to be careful.

I honestly don’t understand how a person with this public position can make such a mistake. First of all, if you drink, don’t drive you car or motorbike. I am sure that with the money that he earns he could have caught a taxi. Secondly, how can you drive without your helmet? It is the first thing you have to respect when you drive a motorbike. I honestly don’t understand how he could even think of it. And thirdly, don’t speed up. If you are drunk and you are not wearing a helmet, be careful.

Anyone can drink a bit too much during his life. That is not the problem. Actually, if he had walked or took a taxi, this had never happened. As I said, the problem is not drinking too much; the problem is all the decisions he made after.

I repeat everybody can make a mistake; it is human. However, there are certain people that have to be very careful and have to give example to society. I don’t understand how a judge trespasses the law. There is no excuse. Judges, politicians have to be an example for society; we need them to have a good behaviour and to be a mirror for people. Performances as López’s are no good; they should know it.  They have to be an example; not a bad reference for people.
